SRS Associate – Chemical Safety

JOB SUMMARY

Coordinates planning, administering, promoting, and supporting the UBC Chemical Safety Program in accordance with applicable regulations (WorkSafe BC, Transportation of Dangerous Goods, BC Fire Code), best practices, guidelines, policies, and standards. Performs site inspections of chemical use and storage areas (laboratories, shops, etc.), participates in teaching the Laboratory Chemical Safety Course, reviews chemical hazards associated with lab processes and other UBC operations, and provides staff consultation on safe chemical handling, storage, and disposal. Participates in incident investigations related to hazardous material handling, develops and updates training materials, chemical safety procedures and manuals, contributes to RMS communication strategies, and maintains program documentation.
